Week 17

Looking at the size of my belly, I don't think a lot has changed compared to last week. I've been having some pains in my lower abdomen this week, but I'm not sure it was just round ligament pain. I kind of have the feeling it's got something to do with my bladder, but I'm not sure. In any case, I'm not too worried as it's probably just the result of baby growing rapidly. I also think I had my first Braxton Hicks contraction yesterday. Very weird! (Doesn't the mention of Braxton Hicks immediately remind you of that episode in Friends where a pregnant Rachel freaks out to Joey because she thinks something's wrong with the baby and it turns out she's just having Braxton Hicks contractions?)
My doctor's visit on Monday was actually just a formality. He checked my blood pressure (still low - 100/60), listened to the baby's heartbeat (still fast!) and drew some blood to send to the lab. I got the results a few days later and I am still non-resistant to toxoplasmosis and I don't have HIV or any other STDs. It seemed weird to me to only check for those now. I mean, if I had syphilis or HIV, I'd want to know before I get pregnant. Oh well!

We had the non-medical ultrasound on Tuesday and yeeeeessss, we found out the sex of the baby! We're very happy to finally know whether we'll be welcoming a little Joyce or Klaas into our home and to be able to start shopping. More on that ultrasound (read: LOTS of pictures) later!
