Weekends that are busier than weekdays

Our weekends have been so busy these last few weeks. We drove out to the other side of the country again on Saturday morning to go pick up our car. Klaas had been whining about it for two weeks (ever since we bought it) and had started counting in sleeps since Wednesday. "3 more sleeps till we can pick up the car!"

Klaas was as giddy as a school girl at a One Direction concert. (I'm looking at you, Sofie!)

By the time we got home, it was already time to get ready to go to Klaas's mom's. She had invited us over to celebrate her birthday. She has a cute teeny-tiny house and with 8 people (my sister-in-law and her fiancĂ© and my stepbrother-in-law and his girlfriend were also there) and 3 dogs, it was definitely a Full House.

My stepfather-in-law. Please excuse his craziness, he's Dutch. Haha!

Posing. Cos I got it like that.

My mother-in-law is an artist. She makes tons of ceramic objects.

I love this mirror. It's so rustic.

My sister-in-law's pug, Nala.

Look at her sleep. :-)

Those back legs!

My sister-in-law's other dog. Balou is an Alaskan Malamute and by far the most ginormous dog I have ever seen!

Today, we decided to pay Klaas's grandparents a visit, because we wanted them to pick out some pictures from our wedding. (More on that in a later post!) They were impressed by our car and grandpa told us again how good and reliable Toyotas are (he does this every time he sees us :-)) and how we'll enjoy driving it.

We only let them know we were coming about an hour before we actually got there, because otherwise grandma would've started cooking a three-course meal again. As you can see, it's impossible for her to just pour out some coffee and put some biscuits on the table. She's so adorable. :-)

Here's a random picture of "Me Julie" in the snow:

A pretty new layout and a shiny car

I was so jealous when I saw Joke's new blog design. It looks so cool and clean, without being over the top. For some reason it reminds me of the lemon and lime centerpieces she had at her wedding, although I only saw them in pictures. When I expressed my envy, she offered to spruce up my blog design a little bit and this is the result.

She removed some excess stuff like the Blogger navigation bar that was at the top of the page and she widened the middle section. She also added buttons that connect to my Pinterest and Instagram profiles on the right, which I think is really cool. I went from there and started toying with different fonts and ended up with these. I love how dreamy my blog's name 'When you said tulips...' looks now (font: homemade apple) and I really like the playfulness of the blog titles and dates (font: indie flower). I changed the font of my regular text (font: Josefin Slab) and it looks really romantic, I think.

The title of this post is "A pretty new layout" and I realize that removing some little details and changing the fonts doesn't technically qualify as redesigning a blog, but still! I think it already looks very different. I'm not quite sure where to go from here (Do I want a different background? Do I want to add stuff or play with the design more?), so for now, I'll leave it the way it is.

In other news, Klaas and I have been married for one month today. In celebration of this joyous event, we bought a new car today! We had been talking back and forth about it for a while and we figured that, financially speaking, it was now or never. We always knew we'd need a bigger car eventually and now that my brother is learning to drive and will soon need his own first little car, we can sell ours to him. We found an interesting ad online yesterday and called the dealer this morning to check whether the car was still available. It was, so we drove out (it was a long 1.5 hour drive) to check it out. Although the car we have now is an extremely good and reliable one, there's no denying that our new one is a huge step up for us.

We went from this

We're so psyched about it and let's be honest: we're proud to be able to do this. When we were driving home, we talked about selling our first car and we both felt bad. It was the first car we bought together and it was the car we both learned to drive in. We kinda feel sad selling it, so we're glad it's going to my brother. It's like having to give up a pet (not that I've ever had to do that): it doesn't feel as awful when you know it'll be cared for and you'll still get to see it from time to time.

Now all we need to do is get all the paperwork in order and get the car insured and then, hopefully, we'll get to drive it home in two weeks!
