Lazy weekends are the best

I've had the laziest weekend ever. This was the first Friday night in 4 weeks that I've been home from work. I've had an info session for our fourth, fifth and sixth year students Friday last week and then parent-teacher meetings on the two Fridays before that. So anyway, last Friday I had the luxury of going home at 4:30pm and not coming back later in the evening. I totally embraced it and did absolutely nothing that night.

Before going home I bought some chocolate Easter eggs from Broederlijk Delen, which is a Belgian NGO that provides development aid. I had three euros to spare, so I contributed. I think God would be pleased with me.

Friday marked the start of the new Astrid In Wonderland season. It's (one of) my (many) guilty pleasure(s), but I don't care. I'm not even embarrassed to admit that I love Astrid and her pimped out, chromed out Kill Bill mobile aka the pussywagon. This show is sooo sooo funny I could watch it all day.

I went to a pet store with my mom on Saturday and got a new scratching post. They look content, no? However, we haven't moved the old one out yet, so of course they're still sleeping on that one. Who would want to chillax in a brand-new home when they've got a raggedy one?

Some other things I did this weekend: visited my grandma (it'd been a while), baked peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, had dinner at my parents', corrected tons of group works and tests and took a hot bath while reading Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood.

Two more weeks until spring break. Can't wait.

Bad habits: part 2

Although I haven't allowed myself that Last Donut yet, it seems that I am already just replacing one bad habit with another. On Tuesday, I got to the train station and went to get a sandwich. I glanced over at the donuts, thinking "I am not buying a donut. I am strong." and proceeded to the register. Then I noticed some chocolate croissants on the cash desk and thought: "Oh, yum!"

Yes, I am STILL reading American Psycho.

This was the only splurge of the week, though, so it's all good.

Klaas and I tried out a new recipe today.

Well, that picture didn't turn out well.

I totally stole it from Joke, who got it from here. It's paprika chicken stroganoff and I really liked it. Klaas didn't think it was particularly good, but he didn't hate it either. I guess that doesn't matter, because there are plenty of recipes we've tried out that he really liked but that didn't hit the spot for me.

In closing:

I like to consort with other redheads. Makes me feel like I belong.

I need more recipes! Please share some of your favorites with me!

Bad habits

Mmmm, sweaty donut.

One of the only things I love about going to work is getting to read my book on the train. Sometimes I have to go get a sandwich in a store at the train station and, unfortunately, there are donuts right next to the sandwiches. So I almost always end up buying a donut as well. Then I walk to the platform, sit down with my book and eat my donut. Even if I've only just had breakfast or if it's almost time to have lunch. This has got to stop. I'll allow myself one last donut, though.

Time is going too fast

Wow. It's been over a month since my last blog post. I am ashamed of myself. Very ashamed. I need to do better. In my defense, I've been extremely busy with work, but things are finally slowing down now. Exams are coming up, so starting this week I'll have more time on my hands. I hope.

I've actually compiled a little Word document so as not to forget anything on here. First on my list:
it was K.'s birthday last weekend. He turned 25 (What an old man, haha!) and I had already bought him an extension pack for an online game he plays last month. When his birthday was coming up, however, it seemed weird to me not to be able to give him a present on his actual birthday, so I got him these:

He really likes to read John Grisham novels, so I always end up buying him more of those. The titles are all very similar so I never know which ones he already has. He also got the second season of Carnivàle. We watched the first season together, but we didn't have the second one. Hopefully we'll start watching it this week, but you do have to be in the mood for Carnivàle. It has a strange atmosphere to it.

I also baked K.'s favorite cookies. This is an old picture of one of the first times I made them (back in June for my cookie club, which is why they're in make-up bags):

They're peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and, if I do say so myself, they taste like heaven.

I also got myself some stuff. I think I earned it because I'm so cool.

Yes, I bought Fifty Shades of Grey in Dutch. It was cheaper that way. I've heard/read great things about Breaking Bad so I'm thrilled to finally have the first season. I'm so excited to start watching it with K. And Babe. Nostalgia ftw. I watched it with Flo and Juul, but they weren't really interested. Juul did get all rowdy whenever the Border Collies in the movie barked.

The day before K.'s birthday we got to pick up our wedding rings at the jeweler's. I won't be posting any pictures of them until after the wedding, but they're a matching pair of white gold rings with a smooth surface. K.'s is wider than mine, which has a few brilliant cut diamonds embedded in the channel of the ring. I love that they have our names and our wedding date engraved in them.

Speaking of the wedding, we sent out our invitations a month ago, so I finally get to post pictures of them! We made them ourselves, so we're very glad that they turned out so well. We worked with a timeline with some of the most important dates of our individual lives and (eventually) our life together as a couple.

We're so proud of them and we've received lots of compliments about them. We've even used the same paper, fonts and font color to design our menus and table number cards.

As you can see, we used a Jonathan Safran Foer quote on the front of our invitations. It's from Everything is Illuminated and it's just so beautiful. It says:

I love you also means that I love you more than anyone loves you, or has loved you, or will love you,
and also, I love you in a way that no one loves you, or has loved you, or will love you,
and also, I love you in a way that I love no one else, and never have loved anyone else, and never will love anyone else.

Since we're going to New York for our honeymoon in December and Jonathan Safran Foer lives in Brooklyn, we've made one extra invitation to put in his mailbox. More on our honeymoon in a later post!

I also ordered my wedding bouquet and our florist has agreed to finish our centerpieces! We had already decorated the vases we were going to use, but we weren't sure as to whether we were going to arrange the flowers in them ourselves or leave that to the florist. We asked her and she said that it was no problem whatsoever and that she'd even bring the centerpieces to our venue herself since it's not far from her shop!

We've had our final meeting with our photographer to finalize the details of our day(s) and I came up with a pretty cheesy (but still cool and romantic) idea. He thought it was a great idea as well, but I won't spill the beans on here yet. You'll have to wait until we get the pictures and I can post them on here. :)

Last but not least: I found a coat for our civil wedding. I was looking for a camel coat that would go with my petrol blue dress and camel shoes and I finally found one! I do think it's darker in the picture than in real life.

What do you think? It looks better when it's on my incredibly hot body. HAHA. :)
