It has been a long time coming, but now it's official: I am changing things up and starting a new blog. And not just any blog, a Dutch one. I really really really want to create a family journal and if there's one thing I've discovered since Elliot's birth, it's that I don't have that much free time on my hands. And even though it feels like a failure, blogging in English is starting to become a hassle to me. I don't write or speak English very often anymore and I find that I'm searching for words a lot of the time, which makes an English blog feel like too much work for me right now. I eventually also want to write about building a new house from scratch and I already feel overwhelmed thinking about all of the technical lingo I'd have to look up. And possibly the biggest reason of all: it no longer makes any sense to write a family journal in English when that family speaks Dutch.
When you click the link below, you'll also see that I've moved over to WordPress. Not because I wasn't happy with my Blogger blog but because Klaas uses WordPress too. This should make it easier for me if and when I run into any technical problems. :)
So this is it. If you want to keep following our family, click here. It's a public blog and I'm making this one public again as well. This means that you can add the blog to your reader again. I had made it private because of Elliot but now that Klaas is blogging about our baby on a weekly basis, there's really no point in my blog being private anymore.
I hope to see you on the new blog!

A pretty new layout and a shiny car
I was so jealous when I saw Joke's new blog design. It looks so cool and clean, without being over the top. For some reason it reminds me of the lemon and lime centerpieces she had at her wedding, although I only saw them in pictures. When I expressed my envy, she offered to spruce up my blog design a little bit and this is the result.

She removed some excess stuff like the Blogger navigation bar that was at the top of the page and she widened the middle section. She also added buttons that connect to my Pinterest and Instagram profiles on the right, which I think is really cool. I went from there and started toying with different fonts and ended up with these. I love how dreamy my blog's name 'When you said tulips...' looks now (font: homemade apple) and I really like the playfulness of the blog titles and dates (font: indie flower). I changed the font of my regular text (font: Josefin Slab) and it looks really romantic, I think.
The title of this post is "A pretty new layout" and I realize that removing some little details and changing the fonts doesn't technically qualify as redesigning a blog, but still! I think it already looks very different. I'm not quite sure where to go from here (Do I want a different background? Do I want to add stuff or play with the design more?), so for now, I'll leave it the way it is.
In other news, Klaas and I have been married for one month today. In celebration of this joyous event, we bought a new car today! We had been talking back and forth about it for a while and we figured that, financially speaking, it was now or never. We always knew we'd need a bigger car eventually and now that my brother is learning to drive and will soon need his own first little car, we can sell ours to him. We found an interesting ad online yesterday and called the dealer this morning to check whether the car was still available. It was, so we drove out (it was a long 1.5 hour drive) to check it out. Although the car we have now is an extremely good and reliable one, there's no denying that our new one is a huge step up for us.

to this
We're so psyched about it and let's be honest: we're proud to be able to do this. When we were driving home, we talked about selling our first car and we both felt bad. It was the first car we bought together and it was the car we both learned to drive in. We kinda feel sad selling it, so we're glad it's going to my brother. It's like having to give up a pet (not that I've ever had to do that): it doesn't feel as awful when you know it'll be cared for and you'll still get to see it from time to time.
Now all we need to do is get all the paperwork in order and get the car insured and then, hopefully, we'll get to drive it home in two weeks!
