I've been bitten by the decorating bug...

As I mentioned in this post, I've been thinking a lot lately about how I could make our house feel more like a place to come home to. Now, don't get me wrong. Of course this is our home and there's nowhere we'd rather be. However, sometimes it feels as though we've never put in a lot of effort to make something of this place, because we know this house is just a temporary fix.

I am feeling so inspired lately and this blog may be a perfect place to keep track of what we are doing in the home improvement department of our lives. Wow. What a phrase. Anyway, here we go:

We bought new coffee and dining tableware. We originally had old-fashioned tableware with little birds and flowers on it (like here), so what I wanted was a clean and simple set, which is exactly what we found. The best thing is that this set was €90 in total (for a 12 person set!), but there was a special offer which meant that we got the coffee set for free if we bought the dining set. Score! We also had a gift certificate (we got one as a wedding present), which meant that this entire set came down to just €35! Double score!

I finally got a pretty cookie jar! How grown-up is that?

I went to a flea market with my mom, grandma, brother and brother's boyfriend. My mom got me this pretty pretty vase and I am absolutely in love with it. I knew Klaas would object to it, so I quickly shushed him with two James Bond novels and a miniature Aston Martin.

Just some more pictures to show you how I put it on top of our piano. I think it goes nicely with our flowerpots. :)

Speaking of vases, I finally put my new vase to use with some roses I bought today.

I got Klaas to hang the 3D picture of New York. It brings some life and a touch of color to our somewhat sad toilet. Now we're all like "BRB, I'm off to New York for a minute!"

Whenever Klaas and I were at the supermarket over the last few weeks, I subtly (*ahem*) mentioned how cute I thought this ceramic bird was. He kept rolling his eyes, saying that there was no way we were taking one home with us. Today, I went to the supermarket alone. :-) I figured I shouldn't be too bold though, so I got the smaller version.

There are more decorating projects I'd like to try out, but they will require some more time and effort. Can't wait to get cracking, though!

  1. Haha that bird looks like Joke would love it alright!!
I remember from our rented apartment that it is very difficult to really do something with it if you don't know whether you're going to stay there for a long time...
In our house we're just waiting to decorate until we get these new floors in! There's no fun in painting everything when you'll be ruining your walls by breaking out your floors, is there?

    Where do you guys live??
